Social Value

At AE&AT Lewis, we work towards the ideals of the Well-being Of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 though the following means:

Promoting Prosperity for Wales

The company supports various initiatives which work to improve the economic prosperity of the area. As an example, we make contributions to the CITB which provides construction training for young people wishing to enter the industry.

Support For Local People

Over 85% of the company’s staff live on Anglesey. We employ staff widely spread across the age range of 18-65, and embrace both the youthfulness and opportunities for peer-learning that this brings.

More than 90% of the company speaks Welsh as their first language, and Welsh is often the chosen language for customer meetings.

AE&AT Lewis as a Considerate Employer

The company promotes itself as a considerate employer, and enjoys a very good rate of staff-retention and a high proportion of family groups within the workforce. We strive for a positive culture, achieved through staff social events, health & wellbeing campaigns and the company’s efforts towards staff engagement.

Support For Local Businesses

We are committed to support the local supply chain, and over 80% of bought-in materials & supplies and all vehicles & fuel are sourced from within Anglesey and Gwynedd, which promotes a low carbon footprint through reduced delivery mileages.

Equality for all

We promote equality for all through our employee policies which ensure there is no bias in recruitment or promotion. We pay a fair wage for all job titles, and equal pay for our employees based on the work they do, but not depending upon race, religion, social background, sexual orientation, or political views.

Charitable Work

The company directors believe passionately in promoting Anglesey. In pursuit of this we support both a happy & healthy lifestyle and mental wellbeing, and for some years have chosen to sponsor the boys under 6 football team at Llanerchymedd, and the men’s first team at Llangefni.

In 2022 the company supported the Cae Doctor community garden project at Bangor University, where our staff and machinery were provided for a week at no charge.

The firm draws its charity inspirations from inside and outside of the firm, with over £1000 raised when a group of staff grew moustaches in support of ‘Movember’, with charity donations going to research into Rett’s Syndrome at the suggestion of an employee.

Environmental Conscience

The company has a strong environmental conscience and seeks to minimise the impact of its operations: Where our groundworks involve excavations or demolition, the spoil is reused on the site if at all possible, eliminating the cost, exhaust emissions & traffic-implications of carrying away large quantities of earth or building rubble. When working on greenfield sites, we strive to cause minimum disruption to wildlife habitats. This is achieved through close liaison with the client to identify the limits of the working zone, and timing of the job to eliminate any disturbance to sensitive species.

Consideration for our Neighbours

The company strives to be considerate to its neighbours, both close to the company premises and on site. Tools & equipment are chosen to provide minimum nuisance from dust, noise, & vibration, and the work is planned to minimise the visual Impact of stockpiles of materials or waste.
